Both do revenue. Only one of them refuses to take your word for it.
Fathom tracks conversions and revenue on every plan, which is more generous than the tools that gate it behind a higher tier. The difference is the source of truth: Fathom's amounts come from the events you send, while Revtrail rejects any amount that arrives from a browser and accepts revenue only from a signed payment webhook. If your revenue is a one-off checkout, this mostly doesn't matter. If it's subscriptions with renewals, refunds, and failed payments, the reconciliation is the whole point.
Fifty sites is a real advantage
If you're an agency or you run a portfolio of small sites, Fathom's site allowance is hard to beat and we won't pretend to beat it. Revtrail prices by monthly event volume across the workspace rather than by site count, which works out better for a few busy sites and worse for fifty quiet ones. Count your sites and your monthly events before assuming either is cheaper.
Forever retention versus rolling windows
Fathom keeps your data forever on every plan. Revtrail's dashboards read rolling snapshot windows, with the underlying events queryable through the API. If year-over-year comparisons in the UI matter to you, that's a point for Fathom, and it's worth weighing honestly against the revenue reporting you'd be trading it for.
The AI-crawler view
One thing neither of the older privacy tools was built for: Revtrail separates ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity crawler traffic from human traffic and reports which pages they read. If a meaningful share of your future discovery runs through assistants rather than search results, that's a report you'll want and a distinction most tools currently fold into 'bots'.
So which one should you use?
Buy Fathom if you run many sites, want your data kept forever, or want a mature product from a team with a long privacy track record. Buy Revtrail if you sell subscriptions and want revenue that reconciles with Stripe, LTV by channel, and mobile purchases in the same view.

- It depends entirely on volume and what you count. Fathom tiers by monthly pageviews with all features included; Revtrail tiers by monthly events. At small volumes Revtrail's $9 Starter is below Fathom's published tiers; at high pageview counts with many sites, Fathom's model gets attractive fast.
- Can I import my Fathom history into Revtrail?
- No. There's no historical import — new events start accumulating when you install the snippet. Run both for a few weeks if you need continuity while you evaluate.
